Locating Your Google+ Business Page

The burning question is this: how do you find your unclaimed business page on Google? It’s an excellent question! Here’s how to find your business page on Google+:

  1. Type your business name, city, state and the words “google plus” into Google Search
  2. If your Google+ business page exists, a URL that resembles this one should appear: http://plus.google.com/1162xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
  3. If a Google+ page doesn’t exist yet for your business, easily create one by visiting Google+ for Business

If you are able to find your Google+ page, it should look something like this:

Unclaimed-Google-Page 2

Now that you’ve found your business page, you probably want to claim it:

  1. Click the ‘Manage this page’ button
  2. Verify your right to claim the page
  3. Edit the page’s information and, like a personal Google+ account, share content and create circles

If you’ve signed up for Twitter and are wondering how to get started or why you’re here, this page is for you. First things first, you might be wondering:

What is Twitter anyway?

Twitter is an information network made up of 140-character messages called Tweets. It’s an easy way to discover the latest news related to subjects you care about.

How is it useful?

Twitter contains information you will find valuable. Messages from users you choose to follow will show up on your home page for you to read. It’s like being delivered a newspaper whose headlines you’ll always find interesting – you can discover news as it’s happening, learn more about topics that are important to you, and get the inside scoop in real time.

How to start using Twitter:

If you remember one thing after perusing this page, it should be this: reading Tweets and discovering new information whenever you check in on your Twitter timeline is where you’ll find the most value on Twitter. Some people find it useful to contribute their own Tweets, but the real magic of Twitter lies in absorbing real-time information that matters to you.

1. DISCOVER SOURCES: Find and follow others

It’s best to begin your journey by finding and following other interesting Twitter accounts. Look for businesses you love, public service accounts, people you know, celebrities, or news sources you read.

Tip: One great way to find more interesting accounts is see who those you know or admire are following.

2. CHECK YOUR TIMELINE: See what’s happening

Messages from those you follow will show up in a readable stream on your Twitter homepage, called your “Timeline.” Once you’ve followed a few people, news outlets, organizations, or accounts of your interest, you’ll have a new page of information to read each time you log in. Click links in others’ Tweets to view articles, images or videos they’ve linked to. Click hashtagged keywords (#) to view all Tweets about that topic.

3. TAKE IT WITH YOU: Connect your mobile

One of the best things about Twitter is that it’s portable. Connect your account to your mobile phone or download a Twitter application to begin reading Tweets on the go. Now you can get updates about traffic problems in the middle of your commute, find out what the players are saying while you’re at the game, or catch up on the buzz about an event you’re about to attend.

Tip: Using Twitter via SMS allows you to pick and choose which updates you want from those you follow, so you can get mobile updates from the accounts that matter most to your life on-the-go.

How to start tweeting:

Many users find it fun or exciting to contribute their own content to Twitter (we call this “tweeting”). If you’re one of them, here are some good ways to get started posting your own Tweets. People who are interested in what you have to say may follow you and they’ll see all the Tweets you share with them.

1. BUILD A VOICE: Retweet, reply, react

Use existing information (other people’s Tweets) on Twitter to find your own voice and show others what you care about. Retweet messages you’ve found and love, or @reply with your reaction to a Tweet you find interesting.

Tip: If you’re a new user, others are more likely to find your messages if they are Retweets or @replies.

2. MENTION: Include others in your content

Once you’re ready to begin authoring your own messages, consider mentioning other users by their Twitter username (preceded by the @ sign) in your Tweets. This can help you think of what to write, will draw more eyes to your message, and can even start a new conversation. Try posting a message mentioning a celebrity or person you admire – they often respond to fans. You’ll see their response on your Mentions tab.

Tip: Can’t think of anything to write? You don’t have to. The real magic lies in reading content from sources you follow on Twitter.

3. GET FANCY: Explore advanced features

As you become more engaged on Twitter, others will begin to find and follow you. Once you’re familiar with Twitter basics, consider exploring the site’s more advanced features: lists, direct messages, and favorites. Learn how to include images or videos in your Tweets, or consider connecting your Twitter account to your your blog, Facebook, or website.

Tip: The best way to gain followers on Twitter is to regularly engage and contribute in a meaningful way.

Add or remove managers to your page

The page owner can invite additional people to manage the page. Keep in mind that there’s a limit of 50 managers per page, and only 20 people per day can be invited to manage a page.

Only an owner can add or remove managers to a page, however, a manager may remove himself or herself from a page.

Access your page management options by selecting Pages from the Google+ main navigation and clicking managers associated with the Page you’d like to change.

Adding managers

  • Log in to Google My Business and choose the page you’d like to manage
  • On the left-hand side of the screen, select the Users icon
  • On the top right side of the ‘Manage Permissions‘ box, select the icon with Plus Sign (when you hover over the icon it reads, Invite New Users)
  • Input the e-mail address of the account you’d like to add as a manager
  • Below the input section, select the role as Manager
  • Click, Invite

This page displays all the active managers as well as people who have been invited to become managers. When a manager invitation is accepted, the owner of the page will be notified via email. The owner and all managers can view the names and email addresses listed on this page.

You can cancel pending invitations by clicking the X in the row with the invitation you want to remove.

Removing managers

To remove a manager, or remove yourself as a manager of a page:

Log in to Google My Business and choose the page you’d like to manage.
Click the gear icon next to your business name and choose Settings.
Click the Managers tab in top navigation menu.
Click the X associated with the person you’d like to remove.
When a manager is removed, both the former manager and the page owner will be notified and told who removed them.

When you remove a manager, they’ll no longer be able to act as that page, or take any kind of administrative actions. However, all of that manager’s past posts, comments, and other actions will remain intact.

hashtag is a word or a phrase prefixed with the symbol #. It is a form of metadata tag.

Short messages on microblogging and social networking services such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram may be tagged by putting “#” before important words, either as they appear in a sentence, (e.g. “New artists announced for #SXSW 2012 Music Festival!”) or appended to it.

Hashtags provide a means of grouping such messages, since one can search for the hashtag and get the set of messages that contain it.

2013-11-21_1201

Hashtags first appeared and were used within IRC networks to label groups and topics. They are also used to mark individual messages as relevant to a particular group, and to mark individual messages as belonging to a particular topic or “channel”. Generally, channels or topics that are available across an entire IRC network are prefixed with a hash symbol #. Hashtags’ popularity grew concurrently with the rise and popularity of Twitter.

Hashtags are mostly used as unmoderated ad hoc discussion forums; any combination of characters led by a hash symbol is a hashtag, and any hashtag, if promoted by enough individuals, can “trend” and attract more individual users to discussion using the hashtag. On Twitter, when a hashtag becomes extremely popular, it will appear in the “Trending Topics” area of a user’s homepage. The trending topics can be organized by geographic area or by all of Twitter. Hashtags are neither registered nor controlled by any one user or group of users, and neither can they be “retired” from public usage, meaning that hashtags can be used in theoretical perpetuity depending upon the longevity of the word or set of characters in a written language. They also do not contain any set definitions, meaning that a single hashtag can be used for any number of purposes as espoused by those who make use of them.

Where the address/link for a page is located in your browser

First, log into a social network. Next, find the box where you can type in something to share. Each social network is a little different, but all will have this feature in some form, usually near the top or top-left of the main page.
